The Seth Hirachand Mutha Shaikshanik Trust was established in 2000 in Kalyan, Thane district, and the college came into existence in 2002 to address the growing educational needs of Kalyan city at the HSC and Degree levels. The institution is run with the inspiration and blessing of Late Seth Hirachandji Mutha, whose name it carries.

Vision: "To be a center of excellence in higher education, fostering innovative teaching, learning, and research activities that empower students with knowledge, skills, and values." The college strives for quality education in keeping with its motto, "Grow in wisdom, serve the nation and humanity" — education viewed as both a career pathway and a meaningful way of life.

Core values: Excellence, Learning for life, Commitment, Open mindedness, Efficiency accountability, and Perseverance. Its goals centre on holistic development, academic excellence, innovation, and social responsibility — enabling students to excel in their chosen fields and become self-sufficient individuals with strong interpersonal and intrapersonal skills.

The college is affiliated to the University of Mumbai and accredited with a 'B' grade in the second cycle by NAAC. In the academic year 2016-17 it introduced M.Com affiliated to Mumbai University, and has applied to the University for postgraduate courses in other faculties. Alongside the trust's CBSE school (Seth Hirachand Mutha English School), it realises a vision of providing KG-through-postgraduate education under one roof.

The mission is to improve education quality through group discussions using ICT technology, placement services, and financial help to needy students, with plans to introduce new subjects, courses, and vocational courses. The college has initiated collaborations with YCMOU and IGNOU and is dedicated to improving its infrastructure.
