Architect's drawings and level on a site table

A floor plan is easy to make beautiful and hard to make honest. Before any Mutha plan is published, it passes five checks.

One: walls you can put a bed against. A bedroom with three doors and a window on every wall measures well and lives badly. Two: the kitchen triangle — stove, sink, fridge — under four metres of walking. Three: cross-ventilation you can trace with a finger, window to window.

Four: the bathroom stack. Plumbing that lines up floor to floor is quieter, cheaper to maintain, and never runs through your ceiling. Five: the door swing map — no door that blocks another, none that opens into a passage.

Zoom into any plan on this site and run the five checks yourself. That is why the zoom is there.
